Guangdong Mobile selects SmartTrust to support Monternet
CHINA
-- Guangdong Mobile Communication Co. Ltd. (GMCC) has
selected SmartTrust to support the over-the-air management
of its 'Monternet' data services. Monternet, a unified
brand of value-added mobile data services introduced
by China Mobile, includes a variety of infotainment
and games. Using the SmartTrust Delivery Platform (DP)
and SmartTrust WIB, these services can now be launched,
updated and dynamically controlled over-the-air (OTA)
via customers' SIM cards.
The
SmartTrust solutions will form the core of a new OTA
service management solution. The new infrastructure
will reduce the cost of deploying new applications and
enable the operator to target new services to individual
user groups, as well as update the entire SIM fleet.
Users will be able to access the services via the SIM
menu, delivering simple 'one-click' access to all of
the operator's applications.
The
SmartTrust WIB controls the SIM menu services on the
handset. The technology delivers a common interface
for mobile value-added services. Applications can be
deployed to a subscriber base using normal web services
and WML independent of the U (SIM) card and mobile terminal.
With 120 million SmartTrust WIB enabled SIM cards deployed
across the world, it has become the de facto standard
for operators looking to control the delivery of content
and services to entire subscriber bases and multiple
device types.
Liang
Hou, sales director for Greater China, SmartTrust, said:
"GMCC's SMS-based mobile data services will play
an important role in the operator's portfolio as a means
of growing ARPU across its 23 million subscriber base.
Without a service delivery platform such as SmartTrust
DP, service menus on the subscriber's SIM are fixed.
New cards must be issued if new services are to be launched,
making it an expensive and time-consuming process. Using
the SmartTrust infrastructure, the SIM can be managed
throughout its entire life cycle, ensuring subscribers
always have access to the most up-to-date services quickly."
He
added: "In the current competitive environment,
service differentiation is important in reducing customer
churn. OTA SIM menu management will allow service personalisation
and immediate access to the latest applications, helping
to stimulate a rapid growth in SMS usage. We are very

local mobile subscribers' demands for simple access
to Monternet services."
