Jabra uses CSR's BlueCore in phone headset
BRITAIN -- Jabra has selected Cambridge Silicon Radio's
(CSR) BlueCore2-External single-chip solution for its
Bluetooth-enabled headset, the BT200 for Bluetooth-enabled
mobile phones.
The
JABRA BT200 is available with a multi-adapter that brings
Bluetooth wireless connectivity to a non-Bluetooth phone.
The firm selected CSR's single-chip solution due to
its small footprint and minimal external component count.
It gives Jabra the design freedom to create a light
and ergonomically designed product.
BlueCore2-External
is a single chip radio, microprocessor and baseband
IC for Bluetooth systems which, when used with a very
small number of external components, provides a fully
compliant Bluetooth system for data and voice communications.
The footprint is as small as 6x6mm and the low component
count made possible by the design of the chip ensures
that cost is minimised.
Connection
between the Jabra BT200 headset and non-Bluetooth enabled
phones is possible using the multi-adapter, also Bluetooth-enabled
by CSR's BlueCore. It allows wireless connectivity between
the headset and millions of mobile phones in use today
that are not Bluetooth enabled. This kind of hybrid
product adds to the increasing range of Bluetooth applications
that CSR's single-chip solution is able to bring to
the market. CSR's hardware and software stacks are the
chosen solution for a whole suite of products, from
dongles, human interface devices (HIDs), handsets and
headsets, through to industry applications. As the market
leader, CSR is now accountable for 59 percent of Bluetooth
v1.1 qualified end product designs.
Leo
Larsen, Technology Manager, Jabra commented: "Choosing
CSR was a natural choice, as their proven track record
in Bluetooth silicon encapsulates our commitment to
providing high quality usable end products at a competitive
price. Moreover, BlueCore's specific product features
have allowed us to optimise the design of the Jabra
BT200 to satisfy two of the most critical criteria for
headsets -- low cost and ergonomic engineering."
