Coral
Telecom leads EPABX market
Coral Telecom is well known for their range of EPABX.
Since its inception in 1991, the company has managed
to garner prestigious government and private projects.
Rajesh Tuli, Managing Director, Coral Telecom spoke
to Convergence Plus about the companys
future plans in India and their latest products and
services.
What
has your growth been in the last few years?
Coral Telecom was set up in 1991. Since then we have
been a major player in the EPABX market. We provide
the latest range of EPABX products and solutions that
we designed and manufactured indigenously. We have achieved
a turnover of Rs. 220 crores and have grown 220 per
cent in the last six years. We have 300 employees spread
over 14 branches in India. Our overseas branch in Dubai
caters to the Middle East and African markets.
Who are your target market segments?
We have proven expertise in product supply for turnkey
projects through technology transfer; consultancy; setting
up of joint ventures; offshore and onshore research
and development work in cutting edge technologies. Hence
private telecom operators, office automation retailers
as well as small ISPs offering convergent solutions
are also our target markets in these regions.
Our products range from analog switching to high-end
digital switches. They can cater to the communication
needs of large corporates, housing complexes, SOHO,
hotels and such niche areas.
Besides India, which countries are you focusing
on?
Worldwide, telecommunications is a fast growing industry.
It has seen phenomenal growth in the Asia Pacific region.
And we are focussing on the Asia Pacific countries like
China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and
Thailand. Markets in these countries are driven by demand
for cutting edge technology products.
These countries provide huge business opportunities
for hardware like telecom switches, VoIP capable EPABXs,
CLEC equipments etc.
How are your products and solutions better than
those of your competitors?
We manufacture and supply an integrated switch for corporate
applications. We are the only company manufacturing
indigenously designed switches that allow data as well
as voice switching capabilities, while most of the telecom
equipment vendors either supply data or voice switching
equipment as stand alone systems.
Our new product IRIS is an integrated voice and data
server specifically designed to meet the demands of
new age communications.
It can handle data as smoothly as it handles voice traffic.
It is highly scalable and has been designed on free
port architecture with distributed power supply and
processor on every card. The back plane is based on
UTOPIA, HDLC and compact PCI and can support upto 43,000
ports. The product has many unique features to cope
with new age communications.
How much emphasis do you put on R&D?
Our company is totally technology driven. Our strong
emphasis on R&D has helped us design and manufacture
the latest state-of-the-art private branch exchange.
Our R&D is focused on developing the latest range
of telecom products and solutions.
We are also working on next generation technologies
in telecommunications like blue-tooth, unified messaging,
IP based solutions for corporates, call centres and
voice compression technologies.
When the world is changing to wireless, why are
you still in the wired arena?
We believe wireless technology, in the market segment
where we are focused, will take a long time to come.
And when it comes, we will be ready with products in
that sector but as of now, we are totally focused on
wire line products.
As for the wireless sector we have tied up with Kirk
Telecom, a telecom equipment and solutions company
in Denmark, to provide wireless products.
