Two new Ministers of State for IT and
Communications
Smt. Sumitra Mahajan and Dr. Sanjay Paswan were recently
appointed as the new Ministers of State for IT and Communications.
Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, is a lawyer by profession, and
says that her earlier experience as a member, consultative
committee, Ministry of Communications from 1991 to 1996
will be of considerable help to her in her present post.
Prior
to joining the new post, Smt. Mahajan was working as
the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Human Resource
Development since 13 October 1999. She also worked as
Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Human Resource
Development; Member, Committee on Members of Parliament
Local Area Development Scheme; Member, Joint Committee
on the Empowerment of Women and its Sub-Committee on
Appraisal of Laws relating to Women - Criminal Laws;
Member, Committee on Human Resource Development and
its Sub-Committee-I on Value-based Education; Member,
Committee on Public Accounts; Convener, Sub-Committee
on Drug Control, Committee on Human Resource Development;
Member, Joint Committee for Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques
(Regulation and Prevention of Misuse); Member, Joint
Committee for the 73rd Constitution Amendment Bill;
Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Health and
Family Welfare and President, Mahila Morcha, Bharatiya
Janata Party (B.J.P.), M.P.
Smt. Mahajan accomplished her M.A. and LL.B. from Indore
University (Madhya Pradesh). Her interests range from
welfare and social reforms to literature (poetry in
particular) and theatre.
Prior to his new appointment Dr. Paswan has worked as
Member, Committee on Finance; Member, House Committee;
Member, Consultative Committee Labour, Social Justice
& Empowerment; Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry
of Information Technology and as Member, Parliamentary
Network on the World Bank.
Dr. Paswan describes himself as an educationist and
trade unionist and has written several books on social
issues. His educational qualifications include a B.Sc,
and a double M.A. (Labour & Social Welfare; and
in Sociology. He has also done his PhD and is qualified
for U.G.C (NET).
He has worked as the Editor-in-Chief of Vanchit Vani
(Monthly) and has organized various national and international
seminars, symposia and workshops.
