MCS — next-generation desktop videoconferencing system

In its endeavour to bring state-of-the-art technologies to India, Netware Technologies has joined hands with MLABS for its MCS systems. Patented in the US, MCS v4.0 is claimed to be the world’s first multipoint-to-multipoint IP-based multimedia conferencing system.

It merges with a client’s WLAN link or the existing LAN infrastructure or uses the Internet, and does not need an MCU or any special hardware. The MCS WAN bandwidth requirements remain constant, irrespective of the number of users. MCS has also developed a document conferencing system based on real-time sharing environment on a local LAN.

MCS is considered as the video PBX of the future, where every office can be connected to each other via Intranets or the Internet. Multicast-enabled, it saves on high bandwidth cost as well and allows desktop conferencing using the existing LAN infrastructure, without affecting current applications. Some unique features of the system include:

  • Compliance with real-time Internet streaming standards.
  • Full-duplex audio and video transmission.
  • Full-motion, movie-quality audio and video transmission.
  • Wavelet-based compression.
  • Real-time conference updates.
  • 16-bit true color transmission.
  • Distributed entity technology.
  • Open hardware compliance.
  • Use of RSW control criteria for bandwidth optimization of real-time multimedia conferences.
