Siemens offers a new path to NGN
MUNICH -- The Siemens Information and Communication
Networks Group (IC Networks) is optimising its offering
for network providers with a new platform within the
NGN portfolio SURPASS. As the first member of the Surpass
family, Surpass hiE 9200 offers all the features of
the TDM switching technology EWSD as well as all IP-based
services. It facilitates migration from conventional
TDM networks to an NGN network and permits network providers
to take advantage of new business opportunities offered
through IP services. Currently available as a pure IP
soft switch for overlay solutions, it makes migration
technically simpler and economical.
With
Surpass hiE, Siemens has combined EWSD technology and
the Surpass hiQ 9200 technology in a new platform. The
combination will protect investments in EWSD networks
by retaining all legacy features, and allow cost reductions
by 60 percent if used for network consolidation. Capable
of being used optionally as a pure TDM system, as a
pure IP system, or as a combination of both, Surpass
hiE will continue to cover the needs of service providers
in the future.
Capable
of expansion, Surpass hiE is important for operators
and service providers using convergent Surpass IP technology
in their networks as the TDM and IP functions can be
used completely independently of one another depending
on requirements. Offering call feature server and call
control functions for standardised protocols, the session
initiation protocol (SIP) and H.323-based services are
part of the platform. Its scalable and modular structure
with open interfaces allows migrating, combining existing
technologies and network consolidation.
Christof
Wahl, president, Siemens ICN Carrier Networks, said:
"Surpass hiE offers a completely new combination
of TDM and IP technology, which offers our customers
a degree of flexibility that was previously unknown.
There is no way to migrate with less risk or more cost
effectiveness in order to share in the earnings possibilities
of the NGN."
