Amoi pushing modern handsets at competitive prices
Geetanjali Wadhwa & Pradeep Chakraborty
NEW DELHI -- Xiamen, China based Amoi Electronics
Co. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of high-fashion mobile
phones for medium- to high-end users, recently signed
an agreement with Banaras House Ltd. The agreement entails
that the latter will import and market Amoi's innovative
and exclusive handset -- A90, A90B, A9, A9B, F99, F99B,
S6, CS6, DA6, CA6, CA8, A8, A6, A08, and A06B.
Amoi
Electronics will also be having a permanent showroom
at the proposed "Ennovation Ma1l" at Banaras
House, Kalkaji, New Delhi. Banaras House is a conglomerate
group of companies offering different products and services.
It has over 75 years of standing in India and overseas
with several foreign collaborations and overseas joint
ventures and subsidiaries.
Speaking
on Amoi's plans for India, Albert Wu, chief representative,
South Asia region, Amoi, stressed that India is a key
market. Amoi's first step toward penetrating the Indian
market is its tie-up this March with Banaras House for
the NCR region. Now, the company plans to open offices
in Mumbai, Chennai and other states, and appoint countrywide
distributors as well. Commenting on benefits of Amoi's
partnership with Banaras House, Wu said: "It is
an exclusive distributor agreement, resulting in brand
agreement, advertising and publicity activities. We
are expecting some orders in the near future."
He
added that the company targets to sell around 100,000
units in the first year. "We have just begun marketing
for NCR region, and plan to sell atleast 10,000 units.
We shall try for higher targets. The NCR region is 10
percent of the overall Indian market," he added.
Discussing
the features of the upcoming handset models, Magic Sun,
supervisor, sales and marketing, mobile phone department,
overseas division, pointed out: "We are focusing
on color screen handsets and modern designs. We are
trying to integrate competitive prices with special
features. We will soon introduce 40 new models. Most
would be camera-enabled. Of these, 20 would be for the
overseas markets."
He
noted: "All color models introduced in India support
MMS. Some of these phone models feature CMOS cameras
and others feature CCD cameras. As regards flash memory,
it varies from model to model. Push-to-talk (PTT) function
is being developed, and would be introduced on its models
by the end of 2004. "We plan to introduce Bluetooth-enabled
phones next year. All of the recently launched models
support Java and Java games," added Sun. A unique
feature of the phones is intelligent speed dialing or
smart dialing.
Amoi
sold over six million phones in China last year, and
is increasing its market share year-on-year (YoY). Currently,
it has offices in Singapore, United States and is planning
another office in India.
