Lucent introduces a high capacity access solution

HONGKONG -- Lucent Technologies has announced a highly scaleable, multi service access gateway that enables service providers to deliver voice and data services to twice as many subscribers as Lucent's previous access platforms did.

Lucent's anymedia line access gateway (LAG) is a new broadband and voice access platform that is optimised and scaled for business customer growth and residential applications. Since it is equipped with open switch interfaces and a unified network management system for both voice and data, less equipment is needed. It allows the consolidation of switches in the network. This enables service providers to reduce network-operating costs while preparing for the future of packet networking.

The system has multi-service capabilities that support both voice applications, plain old telephone service (POTS), ISDN, as well as broadband applications.

Anymedia LAG also enables service providers to offer new revenue-generating residential services, such as enhanced voice and messaging services, high-speed Internet, broadcast television and video-on-demand. The platform also supports video conferencing and multiline voice over IP (VoIP) services for business customers.
