SK Telecom,
APBW sign licensing agreement for wireless Internet
platform
HONGKONG
-- South Korea's largest mobile telecom service provider,
SK Telecom has signed a license agreement in Taipei
with Taiwan's 3G-service provider, Asian Pacific Broadband
Wireless(APBW). As per the agreement, SK Telecom will
supply its wireless Internet platform including operating
system and solutions for devices to APBW.
Under
the $30 million contract, SK Telecom will provide, on
a turnkey basis, not only the mobile portal platform
but also various applications that have been developed
by Korea's startups and engineered by SK Telecom. These
include MMS, multimedia solutions and Java virtual machine
along with several other key solutions that enable advanced
wireless Internet service.
APBW
plans to launch its 3G service in March 2003 with market-proven
killer applications from Korea including ring-tone &
picture downloads, multimedia games, MMS.
The
contract gives SK Telecom a leading edge in the extremely
competitive global wireless telecom market and demonstrates
a new business model for IT companies.
