Cellnext brings operator independent MMS to mobile users

New Delhi -- Cellnext, Indian telecom software company has developed a technology by which any mobile handset user can send customised greetings to a MMS capable handset even if the cellular service operator does not provide this service.

"We don't need to tie up with operators- they will come to us" said Atanu Mandal, CEO, Cellnext on the release of this technology. To catch the Christmas/New Year wind, Cellnext's marketing chief Srijnan Sanyal says that the registration will be free for the time being.

What is even more significant is that different operators could tie up with the MMS centre of Cellnext and enable their mobile subscribers to access the service. This capability is the one that makes Mandal believe that it is the operators who will come to him rather than he going to them.

Operators will benefit from this service in the way that their investment for providing MMS is saved. Customers who would like to send differently customized messages would use more airtime and hence, increase his revenue. Some content already resides in Cellnext's centres and customers can make use of them. But content providers can develop a variety of applications and earn revenues through Cellnext and operators.

Mandal envisages innovative uses for his operator independent MMS. There is scope for all types of businesses where exchange of data and pictures could earn more clients using the mobile phone as the medium. The only limit is the screen size and data speed. "Our prices are highly competitive, despite we being in a monopoly situation," Sanyal assures. Asked about the high price of the MMS capable handset, he points out that in this business costs of terminals invariably come precipitately down as user base spreads.

Cellnext is going a step forward by acting as a multi-media content aggregator by launching India's first MMS-portal GO667. It enables not only the users with MMS compatible handsets but also the SMS, WAP and Web users to experience the excitement and thrills of sending multi-media content to MMS phones or an email account. End users from any part of the world can directly register for the GO667 service and download MMS content for a nominal charge.

Cellnext is buiding a large pool of MM content- still images, emoticons, animated images, music, greetings and more which will be available on the website ww.go667.com. It is a portal dedicated to multimedia and messaging content with user friendly interfaces to encourage users to enjoy the experience without the hassles of navigating difficult menus. The MMS centre administers, stores, transmits and transform the multimedia messages and creates billing data. "It is a quantum leap in mobile messaging capabilities" Mandal said.
