Conax to deliver conditional access
for IP TV in Malaysia
MALAYSIA -- Conax AS, a leading supplier of conditional
access technology for digital TV, recently signed an
agreement with MiTV Corp. Sdn. Bhd. (MiTV) for delivering
Conax CAstream to the latter's digital broadcasting
over IP operation in Malaysia. MiTV has successfully
created a cost-effective product, utilizing a combination
of Internet, transmission technologies and infrastructures
(IP/UHF), to address the ever-increasing media demands
of a wider cross section of the Malaysian market. This
combination of technologies is unique to Malaysia.
MiTV's
IP TV includes a range of services, e.g., pre-packed
playout capability of more than 80 distinct channels,
TV channels with multitude and interactive elements,
video-on-demand, music-on-demand and pay-per-view, to
name a few. MiTV selected the Conax CAstream system
and smart cards for its service. Conax CAstream enables
operators and content providers to encrypt the streamed
IP television content, distribute the encrypted stream
via open networks, and selectively determine the receivers
who will be able to decrypt and utilise the content.
Conax CAstream is a standalone security system that
allows MiTV to continue using their existing platform
and applications, at the same time as they add strong
conditional access and security mechanisms.
The
platform will also be prepared for virtual VoD (VVoD).
VVoD implies that MiTV can automatically download blocks
of films to large number of STB's with hard drive during
off-peak hours, saving broadband capacity. The TV consumers
can browse a catalog over the movies currently available
on the STB hard disc, and choose to view the preferred
movie.
Raza
Ansari, vice president Asia, Conax AS, Singapore branch,
said: "This daring move of MiTV is just yet another
confirmation of what we believe is going to be the future
broadcasting transmission technology. We are very proud
to be selected by MiTV for its revolutionary move into
IPTV. Its project is outstanding in Asia, and will also
create waves and vibration worldwide."
MiTV
was formed as a private limited company in Malaysia
in 1998, with the principal activity of providing cost-effective,
high speed content delivery to the end users of the
administrative capital. The laying of MiTV Media' fiber-optic
backbone structure was the initial step towards providing
this content delivery service. MiTV has three subsidiaries,
whereas principal activities are within Networks Services
(Shasta Broadband), Content Warehousing Services (Webhost
Asia) and Interactive Television Services (MiTV Corporation
Sdn. Bhd.).
