Tata Indicom 'Walky' receives Best Service Award
NEW DELHI -- Tata Indicom 'Walky' received the 'Best Service in Emerging Markets Award' at the World Communication Awards held recently in London.
The World Communication Award is the most prestigious body, which recognises outstanding achievement among telecom service providers at a global, regional and national level. The World Communication Awards is widely acknowledged as the most trusted event of its kind in the global communications industry.
For the 'Best Service in Emerging Markets', a panel of independent judges considered traditional values such as quality of service, reliability and customer service, as well as the strength of service portfolio, technological innovation, evidence of strong and disciplined management, strategic direction and future scope for development of the company.
Along with this award, Tata Indicom also became the first and the largest wireless service provider with over 3 million Fixed Wireless customers.
The 'Walky', fixed wireless service, has all the 'intelligent' features of a mobile phone such as SMS, caller ID, missed call notification, off hook reception, address book and high speed Internet capability. Operating on Tata Indicom CDMA network, 'Walky' fixed wireless service is available across twenty circles.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Harish Bhat, president, marketing in Tata Teleservices said, "The award clearly depicts that our fixed wireless service is increasingly and rapidly gaining popularity. The market response to this product has been very positive and we see tremendous growth potential in this product category going forward. We are keen to further grow this category and offer a range of feature rich phone instruments to our customers at great value tariffs."
Tata Indicom offers 'Walky' fixed wireless service on LG and Axesstel and Sungil instruments. These instruments combine a backlit display and a stunning design with a range of attractive features that include a phonebook capacity, Caller Line Identity, and polyphonic ringtones. The phone can be placed on a flat surface and can also be mounted. Today, Tata Indicom customers have a variety of instruments and colours to choose from. 'Walky' customers can avail the benefits of being wireless at landline rates. Tata Indicom is targeting the emerging smaller markets as well as the replacement markets in larger towns to further increase this leadership position.
Tata Indicom was the first to launch CDMA-based fixed wireless service in the country. As the service operates on Tata Indicom CDMA wireless platform, it offers several advantages over the landline, as it does not require any physical wiring for last mile connectivity. Hence customers can expect instant connections (as it eliminates the need for cables to be laid), the ability to retain the same phone number within the city for customers who shift residence/office, better security and all weather proof (unaffected by rains / harsh climatic conditions) service.
Around the globe, manufacturers had considered fixed wireless service as a dead product. But after the tremendous success of Tata Indicom fixed wireless service in India, today international vendors are investing money and are taking interest in R&D on fixed wireless service.
Tata Teleservices is one of India's leading private telecom service provider. The company offers integrated telecom solutions to its customers under the Tata Indicom brand, and uses the latest CDMA 3G1X technology for its wireless network. Tata Teleservices operates in 20 circles i.e. Andhra Pradesh, Chennai, Gujarat, Karnataka, New Delhi, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (E), Uttar Pradesh (W), Kolkata, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal in over 1700 towns.
