Irdeto wins prestigious 2005 Hamel Trade Award

SOUTH KOREA -- Irdeto, the proven expert in content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile, and a subsidiary of multinational media group Naspers, recently won the prestigious 2005 Hamel Trade Award for its outstanding contributions to the South Korean Mobile TV industry.

The annual Hamel Trade Awards, first launched in 2003, are presented to outstanding Dutch companies that have made a significant impact on South Korea’s economy and promoted business and trade relations between the two countries. Irdeto was one of only two Dutch companies to receive the awards this year.

His Excellency Radinck J. van Vollenhoven, Ambassador of The Netherlands in Korea, said: “Irdeto’s growth in South Korea is very impressive and it’s a significant contributor to the mobile TV industry and economy here. South Korea was the first to launch a Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting service, and its success was ensured with Irdeto making content on the platform secure. Without a doubt, South Korea is world leader in technology developments and Irdeto is playing a significant role in enabling that.”

Irdeto’s Korean office was established in 2003 and the company now has 20 staff. It has a key role in the company’s mobile solutions business with various teams within its development centre working on device verification tests and client device integration. Irdeto Korea has partnered with 20 device manufacturers, including renowned Korean brands like Samsung and LG, to incorporate its mobile security solution into around 25 mobile devices with Digital Multimedia Broadcasting capabilities.

“We are delighted to receive this year’s Hamel Trade Award. It is a great honour and it reinforces our leading position in the marketplace,” said Mr. Graham Kill, CEO of Irdeto. We have grown our presence and business in South Korea by 100 percent since 2004 and it now represents our fastest growing new market in the region. It is a challenge to provide cutting-edge technology to a market as advanced as South Korea, but we’ve proven ourselves to be up to the task and will continue to use our experience there to support mobile TV initiatives worldwide.”

Irdeto is also nominated for the Cathay Pacific China Trader Award. The Cathay Pacific China Trader Award was created to recognize success in the field of conducting business in China. Every year since 1996, a jury comprised of experts taken from both business and academia has chosen a recipient of this prestigious reward. The winners will be announced during a ceremony on 30 November, 2005.
