AsiaSat, REACH sign AsiaSat 4 lease agreement

HONG KONG -- Asia Satellite Telecommunications Co. Ltd. (AsiaSat) and REACH have signed a lease agreement for one C-band transponder on AsiaSat 4.

Peter Jackson, chief executive officer, AsiaSat, said: "We are extremely pleased to announce the first lease on AsiaSat 4 with REACH despite a soft market. This new deal signals the beginning of the revival in demand for transponder capacity in the region and an improvement in the Asian economy. AsiaSat 4's exceptional regional coverage will fully support REACH's delivery of satellite services solutions and further strengthen its network coverage."

Jackson explained that REACH currently uses AsiaSat 2 to offer satellite services solutions to global carriers, major broadcasters and corporate customers and provides tracking, telemetry and control (TT&C) services to AsiaSat from its extensive Hong Kong teleport facility.

Rob Kenny, commercial director, REACH, said: "AsiaSat has a long track record of excellence in quality service in the region. This transaction will facilitate unprecedented access by REACH's customers to the most advanced broadband satellite communications services in the world. REACH is the number one provider of voice and data/Internet traffic in non-Japan Asia and in the top tier globally. This significant additional C-band capacity on AsiaSat 4 augments our existing flexibility for regional coverage on AsiaSat satellites and further boosts our ability to provide seamless regional and global connectivity for customers."
