Scopus, Runcom promote DVB-RCT standard

ISRAEL -- Scopus Network Technologies and Runcom have recently signed an agreement to promote the implementation of the emerging DVB-RCT (return channel terrestrial) standard.

The agreement will enable Scopus to be the first in the market to offer a system solution, based on Runcom's unique technology, to broadcasters for delivering interactive services over a digital terrestrial platform. The RCT platform will enable services such as video conferencing, video-on-demand, TV voting, TV browsing, interactive games and T-commerce. One of the first results of this co-operation is a field trial in Italy with major Italian broadcasters scheduled for the second half of 2003. The Italian market has the potential to be one of the largest European markets for digital terrestrial TV.

The DVB committee for terrestrial transmissions (DVB-T) has ratified the DVB-RCT standard and subsequently ETSI (European Telecommunication Standard Institute) adopted it in 2002. It addresses the issue of interactive channels for digital terrestrial TV services, complimenting the DVB-T downstream specification.
