Dell announces India expansion

NEW DELHI -- Dell Inc., whose unique Internet marketing of its PCs created a new paradigm in marketing, has come out with a huge expansion of its India operation.

Kevin Rollins, chief executive officer of Dell, recently announced the company is setting up its fourth customer contact center. The new customer contact facility will be established at Gurgaon.

Dell has already customer contact centers in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mohali that are part of a 30-site global customer contact network. The opening up of the customer contact facility at Gurgaon itself shows the keen interest of Dell in India, especially in its highly skilled workforce available at economical rates.

Since establishing its first customer contact center in India at Bangalore in 2001, the company’s teams in India have pioneered processes and practices for technical support, call planning and staffing, and provide frontline support to Dell customers around the world, regardless of product, time or location.  India is the only country in Dell’s 30-site customer contact network that supports customers in all geographic regions.

Dell will begin hiring in March for new contact center positions in Gurgaon. The company is currently recruiting product development engineers for its Bangalore development center.

Rollins seemed satisfied and happy while mentioning his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as “fruitful”, where he put forward his vision of Dell in India. The meeting with the Prime Minister itself proves that how much the Indian Government is keen on bringing in the foreign direct investment to India and also projecting a very positive and welcoming attitude when it comes to opening up of the R&D centers here. Rollins pointed out that for the growth of an economy the infrastructure plays a pivotal role, and stressed on the building up of an infrastructure base, which would make more and more foreign investors to come and put in their capital.

He also announced the plans to double the size of its India-based product development team during the next two years based on its success in supporting the company’s enterprise systems, a strategic product area for Dell.  Today, more than 300 Dell Product Group engineers are engaged in developing and testing enterprise products, including servers and storage systems.

“Our teams in India have integrated well with Dell’s global operations. As we continue to attract new customers the world over, we have successfully expanded our global service network and our talented team in India has played a key role”, Rollins said.
