TRAI issues Recommendations on Issues relating to Uplinking Downlinking of Television channels in India

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released the recommendations on issues relating to Uplinking-Downlinking of TV channels in India. In view of increasing number of TV channels, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had requested TRAI to furnish its recommendations on review of policy on uplinking and downlinking of TV channels in India.

Telephone subscriber base reaches 671.69 million by June end

The number of telephone subscribers in India has increased to 671.69 million at the end of June-2010 from 653.92 million in May-2010. As per the figures data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), it has registered a growth of 2.72%. With this, the overall tele-density in India has reached 56.83.
Wireless subscriber base has increased from 617.53 million in May-2010 to 635.51 million at the end of June-2010 registering a growth of 2.91%. Wireless tele-density stands at 53.77.
Wireline subscriber base declined from 36.39 million in May-2010 to 36.18 million at the end of June-2010 with overall Wireline teledensity of 3.06. Total Broadband subscriber base has increased from 9.24 million in May-2010 to 9.45 million in June-2010, there by showing a growth of 2.27%.
