BANGALORE
-- According to IDC, HP took the leadership position
in external disk storage and total disk storage revenues
during Q3 2004. As per IDC reports, HP had a total disk
storage market share of 44.5 percent of the terabytes
sold in the Indian market. In the external disk storage
market, HP recorded a market share of 29.3 percent in
terms of revenue and 40 percent in terms of capacity.
The report said that HP had a share of 30.7 percent
of the total network storage (SAN and NAS) market in
revenue terms.
In Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), HP's external storage
market share stood at 23.9 percent - while for total
storage, HP had garnered 26 percent of the market share.
In terms of gigabyte capacity, it was ahead of its competitors
with 35.6 percent of the market share in external storage
in APJ.
Avijit Basu, country manager, StorageWorks Division
- HP India, said: "The result of this quarter consolidates
our position in the Indian market. We are achieving
the targets set and since our results are consistent
with our strategy and new product offerings, we are
looking to continue this momentum in the future."
In a separate initiative, HP and Veritas Software Corp.
expanded their long-standing alliance under a multi-year
agreement with the naming of Veritas' products as HP's
preferred file system and volume management solutions
for the HP-UX 11i operating environment.
Under a multi-year agreement between the two companies,
the OEMs will select Veritas Storage Foundation products
in order to extend the industry-leading virtualization
and high availability of HP-UX 11i to the Indian customers.
This initiative would further ease customer evolution
to high end HP Integrity and HP 9000 servers. The agreement
enhanced the tight integration of virtualization with
high availability. It enabled HP VSE (virtual server
environment) customers to automatically expand and contract
server resources in real-time, based on business priorities,
and maintain service levels in the event of unexpected
downtime.
The two companies plan to integrate key products, including
Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System and Storage
Foundation for Oracle RAC, with HP Serviceguard. HP
Serviceguard protects mission-critical applications
from a variety of hardware and software failures. The
Veritas Storage Foundation software provides simultaneous
access to storage from multiple servers, enabling load
sharing between servers and optimized use of shared
storage devices.
Hemant Tiwari, director, Enterprise Servers and Storage
- HP India, said: "Our ties with Veritas are strengthening
and the result of this alliance will reflect in the
benefits that our customers receive. Our collaboration
with Veritas helps us to deliver on our Adaptive Enterprise
strategy and assists our UNIX customers in their evolution
to next-generation platforms." The Serviceguard
on HP-UX 11i will gain access to Veritas software directly
from HP. In addition, this integration will also provide
for a simplified purchasing and support process.
Agendra Kumar, country manager, Veritas Software Solutions
India Pvt. Ltd., added: "HP's strategic alignment
with Veritas for clustering file services is a welcome
change in HP's roadmap, since there is no need to re-invent
the wheel. Veritas has a proven track record in developing
highly available software solutions and we believe that
this partnership serves HP customers well."
