Popularity
of digital cameras continues
UNITED
STATES -- According to a recently published report by
In-Stat/MDR, digital still cameras are likely to continue
to enjoy their current popularity in the future. It
revealed that digital still cameras are the most-owned
digital camera types among the respondents with nearly
two-thirds owning them. With 37 percent of respondents
planning to buy one in the next 12 months, the product's
future looks promising.
Currently,
digital cameras are among the hottest consumer items.
Consumers are taking advantage of falling prices and
the increasing quality of digital still cameras, digital
camcorders and PC cameras as well. This has made digital
imaging a marketplace phenomenon over the past three
to five years. During the past few years, the digital
still camera market has experienced tremendous growth.
Nearly 26 percent of those who currently own a digital
still camera intend to buy another one in the next 12
months.
In-Stat/MDR
has also found that:
Majority
of digital still camera owners email their images.
- After
digital still cameras, digital camcorders are the
next most popular type of digital camera owned by
the panel respondents. Survey results indicated that
a majority of digital camcorder owners take still
images with their camcorders, and a significant number
email those images.
- PC
cameras are also widely owned by panel respondents.
Results indicated that nearly half of PC camera owners
use their devices for live video chatting. A significant
number of PC camera owners have dual-use cameras,
a category of PC camera that allows the camera to
be detached and used to take low-resolution still
images.
- A
very small percentage of respondents currently own
a mobile phone camera. However, well over three times
the number of current owners plan to purchase one
in the next twelve months. Survey results indicated
that the ability to e-mail photos from mobile phone
cameras is by far the most attractive feature to both
current and prospective owners of these devices.
