AT&T offers enhanced VPN services in China
CHINA
-- AT&T has recently announced the general availability
of a fully managed, end-to-end global IP virtual private
network (VPN) solution in China. It will be utilising
its joint venture, Unisiti, as a local service provider,
and the services grouped under the company's services
portfolio -- Unisiti Global VPN solutions.
Riding
on the AT&T Global Network, the company's new global
MPLS enabled network, AT&T enhanced VPN service
reduces the need for companies to build and provide
ongoing operational support for their own regional and
global networks, allowing them to focus on their core
business.
This
service will be provided to business customers in China
through Unisiti, the first Sino-foreign telecom services
joint venture in China, which was formed between Shanghai
Telecom (STC), AT&T and Shanghai Information Investments
Inc (SII), and began operations in March 2002. The service
is the simplest way for customers to evolve their Frame
Relay WAN to IP-enabled networking, allowing for distributed
communications and traffic prioritisation with end-to-end
management of their network.
The
enhanced VPN services provide a secure, reliable, high-performing
corporate networking environment with remote and dedicated
access options. Companies can assign bandwidth for various
data applications by classes of service allowing them
to prioritise different applications. The service is
supported via AT&T
integrated global enterprise management system (iGEMS)
platform. By utilising iGEMS, AT&T evolves, designs,
deploys and manages corporate IP VPN networks, with
round the clock monitoring and Web reporting on the
network status and the performance of business applications.
Bill
King, general manager, AT&T Greater China, said:
"We are very excited about extending the reach
of the AT&T enhanced VPN services to our customers
in China. Designed to provide the seamless flexibility
with the reliability, quality and security of an MPLS-enabled
network, the service offers an efficient, scalable way
to support real-time mission critical business applications.
It also allows remote or mobile employees, customers
and partners to access the corporate VPN from almost
any location around the globe."
Rick
Luk, general manager, Unisiti, added: "Businesses
operating in China have increasingly sophisticated demands
for global managed networking services that support
multiple applications. In the current economic environment,
businesses need cost-effective, reliable and seamless
communications services. We are delighted to be working
with AT&T and Shanghai Telecom to make this state-of-the-art
service available to customers in China. They will benefit
greatly from the advanced features of MPLS."
