NEC establishes new PC operation company
JAPAN
-- NEC Corp. has recently established NEC Personal Products
Ltd. for complete PC operation -- from development and
manufacturing to sales and support. It merged NEC CustomTechnica
Ltd., which concentrates on development and manufacturing
PCs, and NEC CustomMax Ltd., which concentrates on sales
and marketing. The new company will start operation
on 1 July 2003.
NEC
CustomTechnica and NEC CustomMax were looking after
NEC's PC operations since October 2001. In 2002, the
adoption of complete unit procurement from China into
its value chain management and the establishment of
a service operation company, NEC Custom Support Ltd.
resulted in profits for NEC's PC operation. To strengthen
it further, NEC decided to re-organise this operational
management by directly connecting development and manufacturing
to the market to create a self-sufficient business.
By
merging sales/marketing activities and development/production
activities, NEC Personal Products will improve its responsiveness
to the market in terms of products and supply. By merging
the marketing and production activities into one value
chain management, its operational management will speed
up as well. The new company will be responsible for
consumer PC operations -- from product planning, sales,
promotions, and service support, as well as development
and production of consumer and commercial PCs. Besides
PC operations, NEC Personal Products will be responsible
for production of business printers and magnetic tape
products, production and sales of electronics systems
for specific customers, and sales of PC peripherals
as well.
