Tata Indicom Internet service from ICICI Bank ATMs

MUMBAI -- Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd., India's leading ISP and ICICI Bank, India's second largest bank, recently tied up for distributing Tata Indicom's dial-up Internet services through the ICICI Bank's ATM network. ICICI Bank customers will now be able to buy and renew VSNL Internet packs, recently re-branded as Tata Indicom Internet service, through any one of the 1,675 ICICI Bank ATMs in India. This is the first time in the country that an ISP would be using an ATM network to distribute its products.

This initiative will offer ICICI Bank's nearly 6 million ATM and debit card holders, the convenience to buy or renew Tata Indicom Internet packs through ATMs by purchasing the serial number and PIN required for online registration or renewal. After purchasing a serial number and PIN, a user just has to go and register or renew his Internet connection at http://signup.vsnl.com.

The initiative comes close to the heels of VSNL's recent re-branding of its dial-up Internet services under the Tata Indicom brand. The re-branding was accompanied by the simultaneous adoption of an FMCG distribution model, through which Tata Indicom packs will now be available from over 3,000 outlets in the eight cities -- Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pondicherry and Pune. VSNL's dial-up Internet packs are now available in the following denominations:

No. of hours Price of new pack Price of renewal pack

10 hours Rs. 105 (validity: 1 month) Rs. 100
25 hours Rs. 250 (validity: 3 months) Rs. 240
50 hours Rs. 490 (validity: 3 months) Rs. 480
100 hours Rs. 890 (validity: 12 months) Rs. 840
250 hours Rs. 1,990 (validity: 12 months) Rs. 1940
500 hours Rs. 3,190 (validity: 36 months) Rs. 3040

Speaking at the occasion, N. Srinath, director, operations, VSNL, said: "VSNL is committed to growing its retail ISP business and our association with ICICI Bank underlines this commitment. The retail market holds great potential for us as an ISP and long-distance telecom player, and we will be seeking to tap this market through our dial-up packs and other retail products that we will be launching in the near future."

Ms. Chanda Kochhar, executive director, ICICI Bank, added: "It has been our constant endeavor to introduce new value added services on our ATMs, making it a multi-utility platform for our customers. The availability of the dial-up Internet service packages at our ATMs is another step towards the same. We hope our customer will benefit from the round the clock convenience it will provide."
