HCL Infosystems sees rising profits
NEW DELHI -- HCL Infosystems has reported a turnover
of Rs. 743.2cr as against Rs. 351.4cr in the corresponding
quarter of the previous year. Profits before tax and
impairment of assets rose to Rs. 41.7cr as against
Rs. 12.3cr in the corresponding quarter of the previous
year.
Revenue
from computer systems segment rose 26 percent, to
Rs. 337.2cr as against Rs. 267cr in the corresponding
quarter of the previous year. Profit before interest
and taxes was Rs. 32.2cr as against Rs. 10.4cr in
the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The
office automation and telecommunication segment revenue
rose 466 percent, to Rs. 391.2cr as against Rs. 69.1cr
in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
The software services segment earned a revenue of
Rs. 14.8cr as against Rs. 15.3cr in the corresponding
quarter of the previous year.
Its
consumer PC and laptop line of business won prestigious
orders from the Parliament of India, HDFC Standard
Life Insurance, Tata Teleservices, Mahindra British
Telecom, Samsung (I) Pvt. Ltd. and St. Andrew's International
Academy for its Toshiba notebooks. The Indian Military
Academy and GE (Power Controls) placed orders for
the recently introduced Toshiba Pocket PCs. The marketing
and branding initiatives, such as the expansion of
the retail network, ground consumer promotions and
the Grand Computer carnivals undertaken on the consumer
PC front, resulted in a consolidation of the market
share in this segment. A large chunk of the business
came from Home PCs, largely due to the revamped line
of Beanstalk PCs. The improved product met with an
encouraging response from customers. One of the largest
buyers of Beanstalk PCs, Delhi Public School International,
came from the education segment.
On
office automation front, the company garnered good
business from its various product lines. Riding high
on the growing cellular subscriber base in the country,
Nokia mobile phones business also saw an upsurge in
sales in this quarter. The imaging business, with
its vast distribution capability and thorough market
understanding, won very substantial orders from Reliance
Industries, GE Caps, the Police Department of Madhya
Pradesh and the Directorate of Education, Gujarat.
