Lucent, Polycom partner to deliver voice, video solutions
Singapore
-- Lucent Technologies and Polycom, Inc. announced that
the two companies will collaborate on the delivery of
IP-based voice and video conferencing and collaboration
solutions and services for wireline and converged networks.
Under the agreement, Lucent will resell Polycom's session
initiation protocol (SIP) SoundPoint IP desktop and
SoundStation IP conference phones as part of its VoIP
offerings for enterprises and service providers. In
addition, the two companies will collaborate to deliver
joint video conferencing and collaboration solutions
supporting Lucent's IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) solution.
As part of this project, the two companies are working
together on system integration, interoperability testing
and joint marketing initiatives.
Lucent's
IMS solution is a service delivery platform that enhances
the ability of service providers to simply and cost-effectively
introduce new Value Over IP, VoIP and multimedia services.
It enables operators to deliver services that blend
voice, video and data capabilities, simplifying the
creation of converged lifestyle services. It helps reduce
the introduction costs and time-to-market for new services
by leveraging a common applications infrastructure to
deliver services with a common look and feel across
a variety of network types, including wireline, wireless
and converged networks.
David Geary, vice president, applications solutions,
Lucent's Network Solutions Group, said: "We are
very pleased to be partnering with Polycom to deliver
VoIP and IMS-based video solutions to operators and
enterprises worldwide. Polycom offers one of the industry's
most comprehensive selections of IMS-capable IP phones
and video infrastructure, making it an excellent partner
to further enhance Lucent's IMS solution. Together,
Lucent and Polycom are ideally positioned to offer advanced
capabilities such as multi-party VoIP and video communications,
as well as hosted and premises-based VoIP services."
Schwarz,
senior vice president and chief systems architect, Polycom,
said: "Our partnership with Lucent will help us
meet the demand from service providers for our award-winning
SIP phones, and help us deliver joint VoIP and IP-based
video conferencing and collaboration solutions to the
marketplace. Lucent's IMS expertise, growing VoIP momentum
and extensive experience with next-generation network
deployments make it an ideal choice as we extend our
innovative new offerings to both new and existing customers."
