1. What kind of growth has the LED industry seen in recent times in India?

We clearly see robust growth in the LED lighting industry in India and believe this trend will continue even at an accelerated pace as more and more people started realizing the importance of green energy and energy savings while the overall solution costs continue to come down. LED Lighting has many different applications in India such as street lighting, signage and display, lantern, automotive, down lighting, etc. From various sources of the market forecast, the general consensus is that it is of at least 40 percent annual growth through 2016.

2. What is the scale of business of ON Semiconductor in India at present and what is the way forward?

ON Semiconductor offers broad portfolio of power and signal management, logic, discrete and custom devices to help customers in India efficiently solve their design challenges in automotive, communications, computing, consumer, industrial, LED lighting, medical, and power applications. Through our own product development efforts as well as our newly acquired businesses like SANYO Semiconductor, we continue to add growth momentum in India through stronger engagement and collaboration with indigenous customers especially in the emerging segments.

3. What efforts have been taken to accelerate success in key markets in India and Asia Pacific? How do you optimize your business potentials?

Close customer intimacy is one of our key success factors. In strategic locations, we set up our Solutions Engineering Centers (SECs) for focus applications, not only to strengthen our technical support to key customers but also to engage with them in developing next generation products. We also set up joint laboratories with target customers to foster our cooperation. Through such arrangements, ON Semiconductor and our customers can win together through innovative solutions, cost competitiveness and time-to-market.

4. What innovative strategies does the company initiate to make it different from the competitors?

ON Semiconductor has a very rich portfolio of technologies and products. And we continue to drive our new technology and product development aggressively in tandem with the market trends and customer needs. As stated above, our Solutions Engineering Centers and joint laboratories with customers complement our efforts being an innovative solution provider for our target applications.

5. Tell us about your new Power MOSFET Devices and other products in the pipeline.

ON Semiconductor is a market and technology leader in Power MOSFETs. We have a strong position with several major leading OEMs in computing, portable, gaming and telecom markets. We are continuously investing in our technologies and expanding our products and leadership position in these areas.

ON Semiconductor is now expanding into applications beyond its traditional strong base of computing and communications into the industrial, lighting and power supply markets while continuing to maintain our position in the automotive market, Specifically targeting the industrial, lighting and power supply markets, ON Semiconductor launched its first set of 500 V and 600 V products in 2009 and has been continuing to expand its portfolio there.

Similarly, new silicon and packaging technologies have enabled the launch of several new products in the 40 V to 100 V range addressing specific application needs in these growing markets. ON Semiconductor is also investing heavily in energy efficiency applications in these markets and will continue its expansion by serving our customer needs with several new products that will be launched in the second half of this year.

Further, with the acquisition of SANYO Semiconductor and their complementary product portfolio, ON Semiconductor now has the breadth of portfolio from high-power to low-power as well as low-voltage to very high voltage (up to 1500 V) to service our customers’ needs.
