LTE: STRETCHING THE BOUNDARIES OF BROADBAND THROUGH EFFICIENT WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY

NEW DELHI: Technology has advanced more in the last thirty years than in the previous two thousand. The exponential increase in advancement will only continue. If 2G or 3G seems the latest in connectivity, 4G and LTE (Long Term Evolution) are ready to leave everything way behind.

Though India globally stands at 13 in terms of numbers as far as broadband connectivity is concerned, it is a mere 0.1 per cent of the country’s population, and this gap can be fast filled through wireless technologies of broadband technology, and LTE will be the next generation wireless technology that will lead the growth of mobile broadband services in the country and reach into the top level.

The country has just witnessed the successful auction of 3G and BWA spectrum in the country and Indian operators are reviewing their strategy and looking at the possibility of leapfrogging straight to the 4G and LTE technology. But there will be infrastructural problems and issues of taxation and facilitation that may need to be sorted out before the country can proceed.

This is the prime moving force behind the LTE Summit 2011 being held at the LaLiT in Mumbai on 15 April, as everyone realizes that in this wave of technology, no one can do it all and joint strategies or alliances have to be formed. In this summit organized by Cerebral Business Research in association COAI & 3GPP, leading industry leaders will gather, collaborate and discuss how this technology will boost the Indian mobile broadband penetration.

Mr. Rajan Mathews, DG, COAI will be delivering the Inaugural Address at this important summit followed by Mr. Kohei Satoh, Vice Chairman, 3GPP, Mr. T R Dua, Vice Chairman, Global ICT Standardization Forum and Executive Director, Augere Wirless Broadband and other senior dignitaries from the Industry.

The Summit will be an extensive platform between the leading influencers and decision makers under one roof to strategize a strong vision for the future of mobile broadband, leading companies along with network operators who are engaged in LTE deployment will share their plans for the future of LTE technology in the country.

Some of the issues that will come up in the day-long meet include deploying a Low Cost Network with High Quality Standards; Regulatory Constraint on LTE Deployment; Technology Upgradation and Latest Broadband Strategies; Designing, Implementing and Installing a Centralized LTE SON System; early trials to deployment; leveraging DPI in LTE Networks; LTE Backhaul: Meeting Operator Requirements; building cost effective strategy and business case for wireless Broadband; Green Strategies for Optimizing Cost; and understanding the revenue potential in LTE marketplace in India.
