ITI releases large memory SIMs for BSNL
BANGALORE -- Indian Telephone Industries (ITI), India's
telecom major, has recently released large memory 32
kilobytes SIM cards with the latest technology for BSNL's
'Cellone' mobile cellular services. The cards have wireless
Internet browser WIB 1.2, SIM tool kit menu and over-the-
air-update features. The SIM has large storage capacity
for more customer data.
Enhanced
'Cellone' menu provides a variety of information-based
services, including a chance to define the customer's
own menu. BSNL has provision to update the cards even
when the customer is using those cards. With the supply
of SIM cards from ITI, 'Cellone' customers in Maharastra,
Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh will be the beneficiaries.
ITI will be supplying eight lakh such cards within two
months.
Having
repositioned itself as a total solutions provider ITI
has, in a very short period of time, shown its prowess
in building GSM mobile cellular infrastructure as well
as WLL for village public telephones (VPT) programs
catering to the demands of country's major operators.
It has set up a facility at Palakkad to manufacture
SIM cards in collaboration with Incard of Italy with
an initial annual capacity of 2 million cards. ITI plans
to expand the capacity to 10 million per annum. So far,
the unit has supplied 1.5 million units.
