Alcatel to provide IP service router
to Allstream
PARIS
-- Allstream, a leading Canadian communications provider,
recently selected Alcatel to provide its next-generation
IP service router for its national switched gigabit
Ethernet (GigE) network. By using Alcatel's service
router (SR), Allstream can gain a critical competitive
edge. It will do so by providing enhanced Ethernet-based
services with a guaranteed quality of service (QoS).
With
the Alcatel SR, Allstream can introduce scalable, advanced
IP-based services, which will allow it to attract and
retain a wider customer base. In combination with the
Alcatel network manager portfolio, the Alcatel SR provides
tightly integrated assurance, provisioning and a single
point of OSS integration for Allstream's network, thus
ensuring smooth introduction and operation of new services.
Henry
Yip, executive vice president, network services, Allstream,
said: "Advanced technology and a firm commitment
to support specific business and technical requirements
were key factors in selecting Alcatel's equipment. This
network upgrade allows us to improve our capabilities
to support GigE and future 10GigE requirements. The
Alcatel SR would help us set new technical and commercial
benchmarks for our competition by allowing us to deliver
a wider range of service offerings, more accurate service
level agreement enforcement, scalable service provisioning,
and enabling faster time-to-revenue, all crucial to
our nationwide offering. This network upgrade supports
an ongoing investment in next-generation IP services.
We have been offering IP-based services since 2000,
and are committed to investing the majority of our network
capital to enhance IP capabilities."
Basil
Alwan, president, IP activities, Alcatel, added: "To
enable profitable business-grade IP services, service
providers such as Allstream need more functionality
than is available in today's Internet routers. Since
the Alcatel SR is all about flexibility to deliver advanced
IP-based services, Allstream can go further with its
existing core network and deliver high-value, service
level, agreement-based, services to its customers."
