TATA DOCOMO Introduces Blood Helpline Service on SMS

TATA DOCOMO once again brings first of its kind initiative – Blood Helpline Service on SMS. This service is exclusively for all TATA DOCOMO customers and it aims at giving help or seeking help in case of emergency.
Bloodline Club is a service exclusively for TATA DOCOMO customers where they can seek or give help for any blood requirements under medical emergency. The service aims at offering a humanistic gesture towards donating blood for saving lives; as many times under emergency when it is difficult to find a donor of the same blood group. The service is as novel for a donor as for a person in need of a particular blood group.
TATA DOCOMO customers can join Bloodline Club by sending an SMS ‘JOIN <Blood Group> <pin code>’ to 54321 (toll free). Post sending the SMS, customer will receive a confirmation message. In case of immediate blood requirement subscribers can effectively take advantage of the service by sending an SMS NEED <Blood Group> <pin code> to 54321 charged at Rs 3/- per SMS. After which, all fellow Bloodline members (whose blood group and pin code will match the requirement) will receive an alert message to help the member in need.
The service is open to non-registered TATA DOCOMO users as well. At the time of need, they can request for blood by sending the same NEED <Blood Group> <pin code> to 54321, even if they have not joined as a virtual member of the Bloodline Club.
Comviva Partners with airtel Bangladesh for its Messaging Solutions Portfolio

Nokia Siemens Networks expands global service delivery center in Chennai

Nokia Siemens Networks announced the relocation and expansion of its Global Network Solutions Center (GNSC) to a new site in Chennai, India. Since its launch in 2007, the Chennai GNSC has witnessed tremendous growth. This includes a ten-fold increase in the number of subscribers it supports on behalf of operators around the world to 77 million. In addition the center now remotely manages over 87,000 base station sites, 14 times the number when it opened four years ago.
The new facility, occupying 90,000 square feet, was inaugurated by Vishant Vora, Group CTO, Vodafone India in the presence of Armando Almeida, head of Global Services, Nokia Siemens Networks.
The Chennai GNSC was the first center set up by Nokia Siemens Networks in 2007 to pioneer its unique Global Service Delivery model providing remote delivery support across its services businesses including care, network implementation and managed services.
It is one of three currently operating GNSCS, with two others in Noida, India and Lisbon, Portugal. Two* further service delivery centers are currently being established in Russia and Brazil as announced in 2010.
All five are part of the company’s strategic response to the growing trend of operators outsourcing network management and maintenance as a way to increase efficiency and improve end-user experience.

Openwave strengthens presence in the Middle East with launch of new office

Tata Communications announces definitive agreement to acquire BitGravity

Tata Communications announces that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire BitGravity, an award winning Content Delivery Network (CDN) located in Burlingame, California. BitGravity’s network and products accelerate the delivery of media assets to end-users and enables scalable, real-time video communications over the Internet. Upon successful completion of the transaction, Tata Communications (Netherlands) B.V. will own 100 percent BitGravity, Inc., which will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Communications. Terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.
In 2008, Tata Communications entered into a strategic alliance with BitGravity that included the licensing BitGravity’s CDN technology and the federation of BitGravity’s and Tata Communications’ delivery networks. The company also made a strategic investment of $11.5mn in BitGravity. The alliance enabled Tata Communications’ to enter the market with its own global CDN in 2008 and has resulted in successful traction with high profile media, content and gaming companies in Europe, Asia and India such as NDTV, IAH Games, Quick Heal Technologies and Nimbus Communications.

Huawei selected as provider to expand TeliaSonera 2G/3G/4G Networks in Norway

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, has been selected by TeliaSonera to expand and upgrade its GSM/HSPA+/LTE network throughout southern Norway. The enhanced network coverage will embrace Norway’s largest cities and areas of high population, including expansion of the existing 4G/LTE network in Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger.
TeliaSonera will implement Huawei’s SingleRAN@Broad solution offering theoretical data speeds of 150 Mb/s. In addition, the 42 Mb/s HSPA+ network will be deployed and prepared for 84 Mb/s HSPA+. The project will start immediately and be finalized by the end of 2012. Once completed, the improved network will provide end users with improved quality of service and higher data speeds across the significantly increased coverage area.

InMobi appoints former Google Executive to drive Asia Pacific Strategy

InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile advertising network, announced the appointment of Atul Satija as Vice President and Managing Director, Asia Pacific. He will spearhead the Company’s Asia Pacific business strategy alongside the global executive team. Atul takes over from Emmanuel Allix, who recently left the company to pursue other opportunities. Atul was previously Head of Wireless Business, Japan & Asia Pacific at Google.
Atul will be based out of Bangalore, India, and will be responsible for expanding InMobi’s operations in the region, maintaining customer relationships and establishing new avenues for growth. He brings with him over 12 years of experience in the technology and online media space in the Asia Pacific region. While at Google, Atul was responsible for driving its mobile business strategy and partnerships across the region, and was also Head of Business Development for India.
Prior to his time at Google, Atul worked at Adobe driving key global alliances for enterprise business and has held various business and technology roles in organizations including Samsung and Infosys. He is also the Chairperson of a not-for-profit organization, End Poverty. Atul is a graduate of the National Institute of Technology and holds a post-graduate degree from the Indian School of Business.
COAI Supports 100 days Agenda announced by Hon'ble Minister Comm. & IT

COAI supports the agenda of Ministry of Communications and IT for the next 100 days. The progressive initiatives announced by the Ministry under the 100 days agenda are indicative of a clear road map for the growth of this sector in an environment which is technology agnostic, transparent and ensures level playing field for all the stakeholders.
COAI sincerely believe that involving all important members of the telecom ecosystem, through a consultative process to address issues concerning licensing, spectrum allocation, tariffs/pricing, linkages with roll out performance, flexibility within licenses, spectrum sharing, M&A, high duties and levies, security, building national telecom infrastructure as well as enhancing the pace of broadband penetration will be a significant step in furthering the pace of growth of this dynamic sector.
The initiative to review the existing Telecom Policy (NTP’99) and take steps to take into account the developments since NTP 99 and institute a comprehensive National Telecom Policy 2011 including recognition of telecom as infrastructure and essential service is a welcome step. COAI and its members are fully committed towards the same.
