DOT clarifies that UAS Licenses Issued as Per the Government Policy

Attention of the Government has been drawn to certain issues raised in the media regarding grant of Unified Access Services (UAS) licenses in 2008 in the context of the filing of an SLP in the Hon’ble Supreme Court and Draft Audit Report of CAG.
In this regard, the Department of Telecommunications has clarified that all the UAS licenses in 2008 were issued as per the policy decisions taken by the Government in November 2003 and subsequent detailed guidelines issued in December 2005. It is further clarified that since 2003 Department had issued 51 UAS licenses prior to January 2008 under the same guidelines on “First Come First Served Basis”.
UAS licenses are granted based on information filed by the applicants as per the prescribed guidelines. If any misrepresentation of facts is brought to notice at a later date necessary action can be taken as per due procedure under the relevant rules. Any misrepresentation by an applicant cannot be construed as indicative of malafide on the part of the Department.
The matter is currently being looked into by various agencies and has also been raised from time to time in various Hon’ble Courts and the SLP filed before the Supreme Court is pending consideration for admission.
Date extended for the paper to review measures to protect consumer interest in the telecom sector

TRAI had invited comments of stakeholders on Review of measures to protect interest of consumers in the telecom sector on 2nd August, 2010. The last dates for receiving comments and counter comments were fixed as 1st September, 2010 and 10th September, 2010 respectively.
Requests are being received from stakeholders for further extension of time for sending their comments. In view of the importance of the issue, the Authority has decided to extend the last date for submission of written comments up to 15th September, 2010 and Counter comments up to 22nd September 2010 by stakeholders. Stakeholders are requested to submit their comments before this date preferably in electronic form at advqos@trai.gov.in.
Worldwide Enterprise Software revenue to surpass US$ 232 billion in 2010

As per the latest forecast from Gartner Inc., Worldwide Enterprise Software Revenue is on pace to surpass US$ 232 billion in 2010, a 4.5% increase from 2009 revenue of US$ 222.4 billion.
The enterprise software market is projected for continued growth in 2011 with revenue forecast to reach US$ 246.6 billion. Through 2014, the market is expected to reach US$ 297 billion at a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6%.
Some regions are expected to fare better than others with five-year CAGRs to 2014 varying from 2.7 % in Western Europe to 11.5 % in Asia/Pacific. Emerging regions, such as Asia/Pacific and Latin America, which were less affected by the latest economic downturn than the U.S. and Europe, are expected to invest heavily in enterprise software initiatives in the next few years as they continue to round out the IT infrastructures necessary to do business.
Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) is expected to have the fastest growth in software revenue of all the regions in 2010. The market for enterprise software in Asia/Pacific is estimated to reach US$ 22 billion in 2010, up 13 % from 2009 revenue of US$ 19.5 billion. China and India continue to be the growth engine of the software market in the region and currently represent the largest and the fourth-largest software markets in Asia/Pacific.

Texas Instruments op amp delivers industry’s lowest distortion for driving high-speed 16-bit ADCs

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) recently introduced a high-linearity, low-distortion, fully-differential operational amplifier (op amp) that delivers 16-bit full-scale precision up to 200 MHz IF to maximize signal chain performance for wireless base stations, high-speed data acquisition, test and measurement, medical imaging and defense applications.
The THS770006 op amp has an output third-order intercept (OIP3) of 48 dBm and the lowest distortion in its class, with a third-order intermodulation distortion (IMD3) of -107 dBc at 100 MHz, at least 14 dB better than competitive amplifiers.

An agreement is expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter.
