Deadline for Subscribers Re-Verification Extended till December 31, 2010

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications & Information Technology has extended the deadline for completion of re-verification by the Mobile Service Providers (MSPs) of their existing subscribers up to December 31, 2010. During this process the service providers can correct their subscriber’s record wherever they find that the documents collected from the customers earlier are inappropriate or missing.
After consideration of all relevant aspects and consultation with security agencies, the time limit for completion of re-verification of existing subscribers by the service providers has been extended till December 31, 2010 by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
TRAI releases paper on Revenue Sharing Arrangement for Intelligent Network Services

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper on “Revenue Sharing Arrangement for Intelligent Network Services”. This consultation paper is available on TRAI’s website www.trai.gov.in.
Through the consultation paper, TRAI aims to seek views of the stakeholders on the issue of sharing of revenue from IN based services among the interconnecting service providers to assist TRAI in arriving at a framework by which interconnecting service providers can be fairly compensated. Comments and counter comments are expected to reach TRAI by 30th November, 2010 and 10th December, 2010 respectively.
TRAI issues paper relating to blocking of IMEI for lost/stolen Mobile handsets

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper on Issues relating to blocking of IMEI for lost /stolen mobile handsets.
The mobile phone theft is a serious concern to the consumers, especially because of valuable personal data/information stored in it. Presently, there is no mechanism in place to block a mobile phone in case if it is lost.
TRAI has issued this consultation paper in order to proceed with the process initiated by it in 2004, which brings out various issues relating to blocking of mobile handset. The consultation paper is available on TRAI website at www.trai.gov.in. Stakeholders are requested to offer their comments by 30th November, 2010 and counter comments, if any, by 7th December, 2010.
TI introduces breakthrough high-density power solutions for point-of-load design

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) introduced two new power management integrated circuits for point-of-load designs that raise the bar for size, power density and performance. TI’s TPS82671 and TPS84620 integrated power solutions ease design and speed time-to-market in portable electronics, communications and industrial applications.
The TPS82671 is the industry’s smallest integrated plug-in power solution at 6.7 mm2, providing 90 milliamps per square millimeter. The device combines all external components in TI’s new MicroSiP™ package with a 1-mm height -- easing design for 600-mA portable electronics, such as smartphones.
TI’s new 6-A, 14.5-V TPS84620 achieves a power density of greater than 800 watts per cubic inch with up to 95 percent efficiency and 30 percent better thermal dissipation than competitors. The integrated step-down solution combines the inductor and passives onto one device, and requires only three external components, resulting in a complete solution in a space less than 200 mm2. The TPS84620 supports a variety of high-power telecom infrastructure and industrial systems that use DSPs and FPGAs.

Tata Communications selected by PSA Peugeot Citroen to Provide Global Managed Telepresence

Europe’s second largest automaker, PSA Peugeot Citroen, has selected Tata Communications, a leading provider of the new world of communications, to install, maintain and manage five Telepresence facilities within its offices in France (3), Brazil and China – the first installation of its kind within the automotive industry.

10 million Broadband connections recorded for August 2010 in India
According to figures released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of broadband connections in the country has grown by 3.17 % at 10.08 million in August 2010, as compared to 9.77 million in July 2010. The total number of broadband subscribers as on August 31, 2009 was 6.98 million. TRAI defines broadband as internet speed equal or greater than 256 Kbps download.
