Oracle, Dell to offer one-stop solution for Linux, RAC
NEW DELHI -- Oracle India Pvt. Ltd., a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Oracle Corp. and Dell India Pvt. Ltd.,
recently announced the extension of global alliance
between the two corporations to the Indian market. This
alliance will provide customers with a one-stop solution
and single point of contact for their Linux and Oracle
Real Application Cluster (RAC) computing requirements.
With
this partnership, which builds on the companies
existing global sales agreement, it will be easier and
more affordable for customers in India to deploy Oracle
products on Dell servers running Linux, enabling them
to have a powerful, reliable and fully integrated solution
that can scale as business grows while maintaining low
total cost of ownership (TCO).
According
to IDC's latest research 'Linux Migration Multi-Client
Study', which looked at 2,600 companies in eight countries,
every major vertical in India is optimistic about deploying
Linux platform over the next few years. Currently, 27
percent of companies surveyed have deployed Linux on
their infrastructure, while 47 percent are evaluating.
The research showed that Indian companies look toward
availability of applications and tools plus stability
of platform being the key adoption factors. This partnership
fittingly fulfills these requirement drivers.
Currently,
Oracle is certified on Dell PowerEdge servers and these
servers are available in India with Oracle pre-installed
from the factory. Unlike manual onsite installation,
Dells factory integration ensures consistency
for any number of servers a customer might require,
thereby reducing errors due to manual installations.
Under
the bilateral agreement, Dell will rely on its strength
in direct sales to provide customers in India with enterprise
solutions integrating hardware and software. To achieve
the goal, both companies have put teams in place to
carry out activities such as cross training, joint marketing
and sales tracking.
Dinesh
Pai, general manager, Dell India, said: "Our growing
partnership with Oracle reflects our customers
increasing demand and preference for one-stop solution
and a single point of contact. The extension of our
partnership in India demonstrates our commitment to
deliver fully-integrated enterprise solutions that can
scale to meet customers business requirements,
while delivering low TCO."
Shekhar
Dasgupta, managing director, Oracle India, noted: "Dell
and Oracle have long supported a low-cost, standards-based
approach to enterprise computing. With a very large
number of Oracle-on-Dell installations worldwide, we
have clearly demonstrated success in delivering compelling
value to a wide range of customers, which we hope to
continue as we extend our partnership to the India market."
