Galaxis
to supply STBs to KabelDeutschland
GERMANY -- Germany's leading set-top box
(STB) manufacturer Galaxis will be supplying STBs to
KabelDeutschland, the formerly state-run subsidiary
of Deutsche Telekom. This will provide cable TV to more
than 10 million subscribers.
The
agreement between Galaxis and KabelDeutschland makes
way for a groundbreaking choice of digital programs
for German cable subscribers. The Galaxis cable STB
gives access to the new digital pay TV offering DigiKabel
as well as Premiere's pay TV-bouquets and a comprehensive
choice of digital Free-TV programs. According to an
MoU signed in September, Galaxis and KabelDeutschland
will co-operate in the marketing and distribution of
KabelDeutschland's DigiKabel bouquet packaged with Galaxis'
"Easy World" set-top box.
Germany's
pay TV operator Premiere, as well as Austria's public
broadcaster ORF and leading Austrian cable operators
support the "Easy World" set-top box. KabelDeutschland's
"DigiKabel" bouquets is targeted toward German
subscribers and especially toward the numerous foreign
citizens from Turkey, Italy, Spain, Portugal and many
Eastern European nations living in Germany. By providing
a comprehensive choice of foreign language channels,
DigiKabel also caters for the needs of the German housing
industry that largely objects to privately mounted satellite
dishes on its apartment buildings.
DigiKabel's
international and German-language programs offer additional
variety to the packages already provided by Premiere
and the vast German Free-TV channels.
