LocatioNet releases MMS friend-finder
application
UNITED
STATES -- LocatioNet Inc., the developer of a comprehensive
integrated platform for delivering location-based services
for the wireless market, announced that they have teamed
with Ericsson to complete the development of "Where
Are They Now." This is a mobile MMS application
that uses both WAP 2.0 and SMS to enable mobile users
to know the whereabouts of their friends and family
at anytime.
Users'
increased concern for a safety and security LBS application
led LocatioNet to develop the "Where Are They Now"
application. The application has benefits of high convenience,
security, and multi-access capabilities, allowing subscribers
to access the application anytime and from anyplace.
Vipul
Sawhney, VP Technology for LocatioNet, said, "Realizing
that safety and security are the highest priorities
among users of LBS applications, we wanted to develop
an application that would allow people to know where
their family and friends are at anytime, with a simple
click of a button."
LocatioNet
is working in conjunction with Ericsson, who has enabled
the "Where Are They Now" to also use MMS as
a delivery mechanism, thereby enhancing the functionality
and user interface. LocatioNet's "Where Are They
Now" application gives mobile operators the opportunity
to offer a valuable LBS service to subscribers, putting
them in a better position to benefit from increased
traffic, and open up new revenue streams such as subscriber
fees for MMS messaging per subscription, per location,
etc. The application can be customized and quickly deployed
as more subscribers join the service.
The
MMS application runs on the LocatioNet Platform, that
provides centralized management of all core location-based
system elements and service applications, which are
accessible and manageable under a unified interface.
