Boingo Wireless expands Global Wi-Fi
network with PicoPoint agreement
GENEVA
-- Boingo Wireless announced an agreement with PicoPoint,
an Amsterdam-based global Wi-Fi hot spot enabler, to
integrate PicoPoint's network into the Boingo roaming
system. The agreement will give subscribers to the Boingo
roaming system access to 75 PicoPoint enabled hot spots
in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
The
agreement leverages the unique Wi-Fi technologies developed
by both companies that provide a simplified Wi-Fi experience
for users, hot spot operators and carriers. PicoPoint
has developed a unique back-office solution for wireless
ISPs (WISPs) that simplifies installation and operation
of a Wi-Fi hot spot. The PicoPoint technology provides
authentication, authorisation, accounting, billing,
settlement, roaming and network monitoring.
Boingo's
Wi-Fi access client delivers a positive end-user experience,
allowing users to connect to Wi-Fi signals quickly and
easily. It also allows them to manage their signals
for work and for home including launching applications
like email or VPN when appropriate. The company also
has developed a worldwide roaming and billing system
that seamlessly connects Wi-Fi hot spot networks from
different hot spot operators. It packages this technology
and its aggregated hot spot network into its platform
services offering, a turnkey network for national carriers,
ISPs, and managed service providers (MSPs) who would
like to offer Wi-Fi services to their customer base.
Colby
Goff, vice president, network strategy, Boingo, said:
"This agreement is important because it gives us
access to a fast-growing network in Europe and beyond,
and because PicoPoint's complementary technology enables
business owners and entrepreneurs to be successful in
Wi-Fi, which bodes well for our future growth."
Marco
Vis, vice president, marketing, and business partners
of PicoPoint, added: "We are growing by working
with our hot spot operators to make Wi-Fi profitable
to them, and Boingo's size and importance in the market
will help to drive profitable traffic to our WISP partners."
