GENEVA
-- NEC Corp. has announced that it will start delivery
of W-CDMA handsets to 3G operation companies of Hutchison
Whampoa branded "3". The total order of
3G handsets from Hutchison 3G has reached almost 6
million.
Delivery of the new models to "3" for Hutchison's
worldwide operation will start between the end of
October and early November 2003. As 3G expands and
rolls out globally, NEC's ongoing role in Hutchison
3G will continue in shape of leading from the front
in the experience, design and manufacturing of 3G
mobile terminals.
One of the new models, the compact "e616"
offers person-to-person (P2P) video, audio and video
streaming, video recording and playback, and a built-in
GPS for location-enabled services. Internet browsing
via the 3 portal is also available through a dedicated
"3" key. The front- and back-mounted cameras
feature zoom and pan-focus keys, with a handy camera
light for shooting quality pictures either during
the day or the night. The phone's slim design is visually
striking and lightweight. The 2.2-inch screen recognises
over 65,000 colors. The combination of high-quality
audio and visual features make viewing video clips
or game playing, using Java, an impressive experience.
