IIMB, HECL partner to offer management
programs
BANGALORE -- Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore
(IIMB), one of India's premier management institutes,
recently entered into a partnership with Hughes Escorts
Communication Ltd. (HECL) to offer a host of long-term
programs to working executives over the Hughes' DiRECWAY
Global Education Platform. These programs cater to the
needs of a broad spectrum of industries. In the coming
years, IIMB will target international markets such as
Sri Lanka, Singapore and parts of Middle East.
The next few months will witnesses the launch of two
long-term programs -- Advanced General Management Program
(AGMP) for IT and ITeS professionals, and Executive
General Management Program (EGMP). Both these on-campus
programs will be beamed live to 47 DiRECWAY Global Education
classrooms located at 35 cities across India.
The AGMP is targeted at the working software, BPO and
technology professional with minimum two years of experience
and will be delivered directly to the executives within
their organisations using Hughes DiRECWAY "direct-to-corporate"
model or through the Hughes DiRECWAY retail channel
spread across 35 cities in India. In this model executives
will receive AGMP right at their organisation's training
room irrespective of geographical location.
The EGMP is targeted at various working executives with
minimum of five years of work experience who would like
to upgrade themselves and acquire general management
skills. Orientation sessions and summing up sessions
will be conducted at IIMB campus. The weekend sessions
in between orientation and summing up sessions will
be beamed live instantaneously from IIMB through Hughes
DiRECWAY retail channel.
Dr. Praksh G. Apte, director, IIMB, said: "IIMB
is one of the premier management institutes in the country
striving to innovate and keep pace with the needs of
the market. We realised early on that there was a need
to bridge the demand for executive education without
compromising on the high interactivity that IIMB offers.
We felt that instead of mere studio-to-participant method,
live classroom-to-participant method is more effective.
Hughes' DiRECWAY Global Education has made this method
possible."
Partho Banerjee, president and CEO, HECL, added: "In
the past, IIMB successfully used the DiRECWAY Global
Education platform to offer programs to working executives.
IIMB's decision to enter into a formal partnership with
Hughes and offer long term programs is a demonstration
of the reliability, efficacy and relevance of the DirecWay
Global Education platform. The DiRECWAY Global Education
platform will allow IIMB to reach 35 cities through
47 classrooms countrywide."
This partnership is for a five-year duration and will
see greater collaboration between IIMB and HECL to deliver
innovative programs to students and working professionals
in India and abroad. One of the key features of these
programs is that the students can attend their classes
on campus if they happen to be traveling to Bangalore
- as the program will run concurrently at the IIMB campus.
The heart of the DiRECWAY Global Education platform
is a powerful user interface that enables large number
of geographically distributed students to have a highly
interactive one to one exchange with the faculty. The
system incorporates live broadcast video, two-way video
and data interactivity to enable the students to watch
and interact with the faculty.
