LG launches premium range of PCs in India

NEW DELHI -- LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd., (LGEIL), the market leader in the display and optical storage devices segment, recently launched a range of premium IT products including wide format notebooks based on the Sonoma platform, tablet PCs and desktop PCs based on the Mediacentre platform. These offerings are the latest additions to LG's wide range of products in the PC and IT business.

LG also achieved the number one position in the monitor market as per the recent report published by IDC. The report clearly placed LG as the numero uno in the PC monitor market (CRT and LCD) by vendors, units and value in Q2-05. Apart from leading in Q2, LG has also established its overall leadership in H1-05. This year, LG has already invested US $2.5 million in R&D and manufacturing for its PC business. In a fresh understanding with the government of Maharashtra, LG would also be investing Rs. 150 crores in a new DVD manufacturing facility at its Ranjangaon plant.

With its wide format notebook -- LW 20, LG will be the first brand to launch a two-spindle 12.1-inches notebook in the market. It will incorporate a hot-swappable optical drive bay. This Sonoma-based notebook is equipped with a Dothan CPU, which supports 533MHz FSB, 915GM, Dual channel DDR2 memory. One of the key features in the notebook is the surround sound stereo. LG also showcased the tablet PC (LT20) that is targeted at mobile professionals with a sense of individual style. This model from LG has won the "Red-dot" design award, one of the world’s leading design competitions.

The Media Center desktop- XPC, is a PC cum entertainment center at home with a functionality greater than that of an ordinary desktop. It is targeted at customers looking at multi-functional PCs. It offers access to media stored in the PC, personal video recording, Live TV recording with provisions for pause, rewind, edit and maintaining a video library, all this with the convenience of a remote control, truly redefining the PC usage experience.
