World's largest broadband TV over DSL deployed


THE NETHERLANDS -- Thirdspace, the broadband TV enablement company has announced that it has been selected by Softbank Broadmedia Corp., the broadband content and application unit of Softbank, as a key supplier for a new broadband TV service deployment in Japan.

Softbank Broadmedia Corp.'s subsidiary Club iT, a content aggregation and marketing company, will launch and market the interactive TV service, known as 'BB Cable TV' through its wholly-owned subsidiary, BB Cable Corp.. BB Cable recently completed its registration as a cable television broadcaster for broadband TV services over DSL. Thirdspace will supply broadband TV applications, middleware, set-top box client software and professional services.

Thirdspace said that in order to deliver the complete end-to-end solution, it is working with MCS, the recently formed broadband integrator in Japan whose parent companies include NEC and NTT Software. In addition, Softbank has selected NDS, whose conditional-access technology has been fully integrated with the Thirdspace head-end and client system. Samsung, who recently licensed Thirdspace client software, has been selected to supply the low cost set top boxes tailored to Softbank's requirements.
