MS Exchange Server ranked number 1 by IDC

NEW DELHI -- IDC India has ranked the Microsoft Exchange 2000 server as the leader in the enterprise mail messaging and collaboration platform. Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd announced this at a press conference today.

Sanjiv Mathur, group manager-marketing at Microsoft Corporation India said this was the result of an extensive study conducted by the IDC with enterprises across India and indicated that the MS Exchange 2000 currently has 60 percent penetration in the mail server market. The results also revealed that Unix Send Mail is second with 14 percent penetration followed by Netscape Messenger and Lotus Notes at 11 percent and 10 percent respectively.

Microsoft further added that the IDC study revealed that MS Exchange not only has high installed base, but also the highest usage as the primary mail server among enterprises. The study also declared MS Exchange 2000 server as a market leader in each one of the vertical segments. In addition, it further pointed out that Microsoft's platforms support mail servers in over 70 percent of organizations spread across various vertical segments.
