Nextamp unveils video content tracking
and tracing
THE NETHERLANDS -- Nextamp, developer of patented video
watermarking solutions, unveiled a turnkey scalable
content tracking and tracing system at the IBC 2003.
It demonstrated the benefits of watermarking, and how
it contributes to asset management and workflow from
ingest to distribution.
The
Nextamp watermarking system embeds a virtual barcode
in the essence of each frame of the video at ingest,
on servers or on live content. The embedding can be
done in real-time for digital video and MPEG streams
or faster-than-real-time for MPEG files. The watermark
is embedded directly in the MPEG format for compressed
video, in order to keep the video quality unchanged.
This invisible label can then be read whatever the video
editing and format changes (analog, digital, MPEG).
It is possible to trace anytime, any video sequence
back to its source. Automated content tracking is invaluable
for accurate management of broadcast rights and of airtime
sales. It complements and interfaces with traffic systems
and automation equipment.
The
tracking system by Nextamp detects watermarked video
from analog and digital signals. Tracking is performed
either internally such as to conform to broadcasting
rights, or externally to check the possible re-use of
content by third parties. It comprises embedding devices
to insert the virtual barcode; reading devices to detect
and process the watermark; and managing server to operate
a multi-site system and generate tracking reports. It
is possible to export content tracking reports for cor-relation
with audience ratings, management of broadcast rights,
consolidation with metadata or to corroborate the as-run-log.
Jean-Michel
Masson, managing director, Nextamp, said: "Nextamp
offers leading edge solution with a single technology
that applies to the MPEG compressed and the not-compressed
video. We are proud to offer a significant breakthrough
to the broadcast industry to support the operations
of TV channels and media groups. We provide the missing
building block of media asset management systems, which
is the link from the video back to the metadata and
broadcasting rights."
