NEW
DELHI -- Tulip IT Services Ltd., a leading IT infrastructure
and connectivity provider company entered the field
of enterprise networking in 1996-97. The company has
one of the strongest support setups in India consisting
of a very large number of engineers competent in radio
connectivity, network operating systems, LAN and telecom
that have serviced clients in various industry segments.
Having a strong WAN team, the company provides excellent
radio-based solutions including multi-point solutions,
which helps clients reduce costs substantially. It takes
these projects on a turnkey basis, including liaison
with DOT and WPC to obtain licenses in a short time
frame. It also provides intra-city solutions based on
wired (HDSL, leased lines, ISDN) and wireless products
(point-to-point (PoP) and point-to-multi-point). It
also provides inter-city solutions based on leased lines.
Airspan Networks Inc., a leading provider of fixed broadband
wireless DSL networks, recently launched its WipLL product
in India with orders worth $1 million by Tulip IT Services.
This contract is the first significant WipLL transaction
for India and also the first significant order for application
of the product in the point-to-point application. Tulip
will deploy Airspan's WipLL product to serve high-speed
data access needs of major entities in the banking and
Internet service provider sector.
Commenting on the WipLL and its deployment plans, Lt.
Col. H.S. Bedi, managing director, Tulip, said: "These
are primarily last-mile access products. Using these,
we can either connect customers with service providers
or customers to each other. The radios will be deployed
in the service provider, banking and corporate segments.
We are in touch with major service providers and the
response is overwhelming."
He noted that the cost of the product as well of usage
would drop substantially. "Firstly, the products
are substantially cheaper than the conventional products
in use. The WPC charges are also much lower than conventional
PoP radios. While a PoP radio attracts an annual charge
of Rs. 36,000 per link, a point-to-multi point system
in the MMDS band attracts Rs. 288,000 for the base station
and Rs. 1,000 per remote," Bedi added.
This last mile access product works on IP. An MMDS solution,
it has a very high throughput. Tulip is looking at an
all India deployment, commencing early August. According
to him, this product takes up just 3MHz of spectrum
for 4Mbps and can come down to 1MHz for 1Mbps. Since
it operates in the licensed band, there is almost no
interference, as a specific frequency spot is made available
to the user. Due to the extremely low spectrum usage
and operation in the licensed band, there is no interference.
The product can work with a large number of base stations,
and it is possible to burst synchronise them to avoid
interference. It can also work 3-4km in the non-line-of-sight
(NLOS) mode.
Comparing the product with PointRed's fixed broadband
solutions, Bedi added: "PointRed, as a vendor,
is a new entrant. Developed by Marconi, WipLL is a very
stable product. Customers use as many as 1,500 base
stations and 30,000 remotes, and are extremely happy
with the product."
