Network Appliance joins Intel ESAA

UNITED STATES -- Network Appliance, Inc. recently joined the Intel Enterprise Server Acceleration Alliance (ESAA). As a member of the alliance, NetApp unified storage systems — including fabric-attached storage (FAS) product suite, V-series virtualisation systems for multi-vendor storage environments, NearStore nearline storage systems, NetApp Snapshot technology, and powerful Data ONTAP 7G software armed with FlexVol and FlexClon technology—will be pre-certified to work with Intel-based server configurations.

NetApp membership will help enable the delivery of easy-to-manage, cost-effective enterprise storage solutions. The objectives of the alliance are to validate key software and hardware components on Intel-based server platforms and provide pre-certified solutions to Intel worldwide OEMs and channel partners. Membership in the alliance provides Intel OEMs and channel partners with “recipes” for building validated server solutions that are cost-effective, reduce implementation and management complexity, and meet the certification standards of ISVs and IHVs.

This membership enables NetApp to provide a validated collaborative solution to help the Intel channel reduce the cost of delivering a variety of NetApp unified storage solutions for data protection and compliance. The initial solutions will address ERP applications, databases, e-mail, disk-to-disk backup and archival, HPC, utility and grid computing, and iSCSI solutions.

Patrick Rogers, vice president, products and partners, Network Appliance, said: “Our modular, single-architecture approach to enterprise storage provides our select channel partners a unique advantage to simplify building, deploying, and managing storage solutions. The ESAA is about simplifying and expediting the certification process. This maps very well to the core NetApp value of simplifying data management—whether that’s targeted at our customers, our channel partners, or our technology partners. We are pleased to be a part of the ESAA.”

Kirk Skaugen, general manager, server platforms group, Intel Corporation, said: “As a member of ESAA, NetApp will be able to reduce certification barriers, enabling a broad range of OEM alliance members to deliver more comprehensive, reliable, high-quality server solutions to their end users.
